Roche Diagnostics New Zealand Ltd is based in Mt Wellington, Auckland with a team of fifty three dedicated colleagues specialists in science and engineering. Roche has a proud tradition of innovation in healthcare. We are here to make sustainable long term impact in our patients’ lives by developing new diagnostic tools to support healthcare professionals and patients, in their efforts to manage diseases and healthcare costs. In New Zealand our purpose is to partner with the Ministry of Health and Healthcare Professionals in managing the various healthcare challengers and targets such as managing the rising diabetes prevalence, accessibility of diagnostics tests to patients reliant on warfarin or improvement in cancer treatment outcomes. In hospital and community laboratories across New Zealand we enable consolidation of services that meets the country’ s challenging demand in accurate and cost effective diagnostics.

AUT Roche Diagnostics Laboratory Collaboration
The laboratory collaboration is the first of its kind in New Zealand and will provide undergraduate and postgraduate students access to the latest scientific evaluations in chemistry, molecular diagnostics, immunology, and haematology. The new laboratory will also be used for research and development of new molecular tests for the detection of pathogens and their emerging variants. The opening of the new laboratory celebrates the strong collaborative relationship between AUT and Roche Diagnostics. The project has been led by AUT Senior Lecturer Fabrice Merien and his work has been instrumental in the success of the partnership.
AUT Vice Chancellor Derek McCormack says, “The University’s collaboration with Roche is further proof that AUT provides our students with a ‘real world’ learning experience that equips them for the job market as this laboratory has state-of-the-art facilities which are used in industry. It is also an excellent example of the investment that industry is making into the high quality AUT researchers in residence.”
“At Roche Diagnostics, we are so excited to be involved in helping the future of the medical laboratory science community to be as well-equipped as possible when entering the workforce. We also believe that the research that will be done in the new laboratory will be world leading in the area of pathogen detection”, says Dr Lara Hashimoto, General Manager of Roche Diagnostics.
